You might recognise the object in my picture as an exhibit in the Louvre Abu Dhabi. I finally got myself there on World Museum Day this year (18th May in case you’re wondering). My main interest for going was to see the exhibition of Rembrandt, Vermeer and the Dutch Golden Age. Happily for me, another exhibition of Photographs: An early album of the world began, so I was able to kill two birds with one stone.
Whilst browsing the main galleries (after three hours of being there), I came across this fine specimen of Egyptian hieroglyphics. I can’t own up to reading about this tablet and can’t tell you what it says, but I am always struck by man’s need to record what’s going on. Indeed, that is what the Louvre Abu Dhabi is all about! One of their straplines is “Get ready to see humanity in a new light”. They are spot on there.
Which brings me nicely to our own little website and what it seeks to do. To record the stories of what brought people to our fine city and to leave their mark. Telling stories has never been more urgent. We’re recording things more than ever with the countless number of pictures we now take, thanks to our mobile phones. So what’s stopping you telling yours? We’ve got the perfect platform for you. 🙂
