Bur Dubai

I’ve been able to attend a couple of DBWC meetings recently. The usual training room is on the second floor of the Dubai Chamber building, but as the uptake for the sessions was higher than normal, we were moved to the 13th floor. This view of Bur Dubai showing the new Al Seef development had to be captured. I confess I spent more time looking out of the window with my camera than networking!

I love the view of Al Seef that this vantage point gives. You can see the new marina and yachts so clearly. You also get a rare glimpse of Sheikha Mariam’s Palace which lies between Maktoum Bridge and Al Seef. She was our landlady when I was growing up. One year, I accompanied my father to pay the rent and couldn’t believe the things I saw. Deer wandered about freely everywhere! It made me realise why there was always the smell of animals when you sailed past the Palace in an abra or on a dhow. It’s like a zoo in there!

The day was hot and hazy but you can just about see the Dubai Frame and the skyscrapers on SZR. It’s great to have such a visible landmark right opposite where I live. It makes it easier to give my location and is lovely to see from a distance and think, “that’s where I live”! Does this picture trigger memories for you? Leave us a comment or email me on info@thegraffitiwall.com. We always love to hear from you.

Till next time,

  1. What is the silver building in the middle ground?

    • That is Al Ansar Mall, built where Strand Cinema once stood. 🙂
