Believe It Or Not…
My friend and I took some time out this evening to visit Wafi Mall to see the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not exhibition which is currently on. We’d caught a glimpse of it a few weeks ago when we were there with friends for lunch and didn’t have time to properly take it in, so a mental note was made to return asap.
For anyone who enjoys seeing how creative humans can be, you will thoroughly enjoy spending a couple of hours there. I did, and if I am able to, I’d like to return again during the day to capture some of the exhibits in natural light.
Why am I talking about Ripley’s Believe It Or Not on The Graffiti Wall? I was reminded that during my childhood – growing up in Dubai, I watched the TV programme on our one and only channel – Channel 10. (Channel 10 went on to become Channel 33.) I’m talking about the late 70’s / early 80’s here, when a single channel which broadcast both Arabic and English programmes and ran from just 5 pm to 12 am, managed to fit in quite a bit of variety and kept a tiny expat community up-to-date! Not bad at all. We were also treated to another factual edutainment programme called That’s Incredible. How many people remember that?
So the fact that Ripley’s have now brought their unbelievable exhibits to Dubai to mark their 100th anniversary is pretty special for a Dubai kid like me.
Have you got any memories/stories to share of Dubai? We’d love to hear from you.
