Architectural marvel

“The future belongs to those who can imagine it, design it, and execute it. It isn’t something you await, but rather create.”

The above is a quote by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai’s Ruler and visionary extraordinaire.

Geraldine (the co-owner of this website and taker of this picture) and I have watched with great admiration, the progress of this remarkable building on Sheikh Zayed Road. It is, of course, the one and only – Museum of the Future – Sheikh Mohammed’s tech project dedicated to AI.

It is an architectural marvel at every level. From its futuristic design to the use of glass, steel and concrete, to the cladding of verses written by Sheikh Mohammed himself, this building wows at every level. The best thing of all, it is literally on my doorstep! I can’t wait for it to be commissioned and to start exploring its contents. Not that I am a big fan of Artificial Intelligence, but the building will get me in it. I think this has taken over as my favourite building in Dubai. It’s right up there with the Burj Khalifa, ENBD HQ on the Creek, Omniyat’s Opus, Etihad Museum, and because I’ve lived here so long, the Trade Centre!

Geraldine has a few different buildings on her list, the most notable of which is Mercato Mall. She also mentioned some palaces and the multi-storey car park on the Creek! I thought she liked it for the views from the top, but no, she actually likes the building.

What are your favourite buildings in Dubai? Please tell us in the comments below. It will be so interesting to compare lists and if you can, post a picture as well.

Until next time,

  1. Grand Hyatt Dubai was pretty spectacular when it was constructed! I still think Burj Khalifa is a beautiful building and Burj Al Arab, ofcourse, is classic, depicting a sail.

    • Totally agreed about the Grand Hyatt, in fact, I nearly mentioned it! The Burj Khalifa will always look spectacular. Great architecture that lasts!

  2. What a beautiful building! Looks terrific. I have been watching it go up over the last two years. Can’t wait to see inside when it is over.
